The Kalk Bay Snoek • Resident of Kalk Bay

Stan has worked the harbour for forty-one years and has never once questioned what is in the parcel. Snoek and chips, every Friday, wrapped in yesterday’s news. If you ask him whether that is strange, he will look at you for a long time, then at the gulls, then back at you. The jersey was knitted by his mother. She was also a snoek. We don’t talk about it.
